Papers, 1876-1962 (bulk 1876-1890).

The focus of the collection is on the Gore and Crafts families. The Crafts material was used in the Craft genealogy written in 1893. Bible records, deeds, diaries, commissions, receipts, estate papers, letters, tax receipts, wills, poems, jokes, and photographs genres can be found here. Gore was involved in the First Independent Corps of Cadets for Massachusetts during the Civil War. There are two diaries, a transcript kept by Elizabeth Howe (1769-1853) describing life in Brookline, Mass., from a young women's perspective from 1783 and 1791; and the diary of Samuel Doggett (1794-1856) describing his business trip to England in 1831 for his carpet making company. A group of 17 letters from Francis D. Crafts describing his voyage to the gold rush area of California shortly before his death. There are genealogical works on Davis, Doggett, Gardner, Litchfield, Spooner, and White families. There are many photographs, including portraits of Crafts, Doggett, and Gore family members; and views of Boston (including Liberty Square after the 1872 fire), Brookline, Roxbury, the steamboat Nantucket, and a palmetto farm in Brunswick, Georgia. Only a few of these photographs appeared in the Crafts genealogy. Oddities include Samuel Doggett's door plate and Samuel Gore's coffin plate.
